What is Off-Site SEO?
Off-site SEO is a form of optimization outside of your website. Off-site focuses on gaining credibility, relevance, trustworthiness, and authority. (moz.com). It differs from on-site SEO in that you have a little less control over some factors that go into it. Onsite SEO ensures that your content, landing page, etc. is clear, concise, and can be easily understood by search engines. See my post on Onsite SEO for more about this. However, Successful off-site SEO can tremendously boost your site’s ranking in search results pages. There are 4 main ways to increase your site’s ranking via off-page SEO: Link building, social mention, trust, and videos/images.
Backlinks are the most important aspect of off-site SEO. They greatly improve your chances of getting indexed by Google, as well as increase your credibility. How to get backlinks? There are plenty of ways to receive links to your website from someone else’s. Firstly, users may link to your site because it is informational, or has new, high-quality content. If you can get in contact with or inspire a highly regarded website to link to yours, that’s a sure-fire way to raise your rank and get a lot of new traffic. Sites with content closely related to yours are ideal, as well as sites that are already popular. Manually built links are those that are received through getting your customers to link to your website or having influencers link to your site.
With the use of social media, you can gain exposure quickly through shares and likes. When you post good, high-quality content, people are more likely to share it on social media. It is equally important for you to have a strong social media presence, representing your site and brand well. By being interactive on socials, you are more likely to get the shares, likes, and links that will help your website rank higher. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Google Business are great socials to utilize. Lastly, always be sure that you are responsive to your followers.
Videos and Images
Creating and using plenty of captivating videos and images is an important part of off-site SEO. Many people like to share videos and images they find fascinating, informational, or funny! Providing videos or infographics are simple ways to boost the amount of quality information you are able to provide.
Answer Sites and Guest Blogging
Visiting answer sites such as Quora and answering user questions relating to your website is a great way to boost traffic and mentions. You can answer their question while also proving a link to your site for further fulfilment of the question. Guest blogging is a fun way to get noticed as well. Guest blogging is, you guessed it, creating a blog post on someone else’s site. This is great because guest bloggers will often leave their names, contact information, and a link to their own website.
When it comes down to it, the absolute best way to get recognition for your site is to create original, accurate, and informational content for your audience. When you fulfill all these things, you will have a website or blog that is worth all the links, mentions and shares that it can receive.
